The last few days were spent in Ubud, a town in the centre of the island. It’s well visited by tourists because of the surrounding rice paddies and monkey forest sanctuary as well as it being home to the royal palace of the last ruling monarch of Ubud. To avoid the constant tourists and also experience more traditional Balinese life we chose a hostel outside the city that offered a shuttle service every morning and evening, meaning we could go into town every day if we wanted. After visiting the monkey forest, rice paddies and everything else Ubud’s streets had to offer,  this evening we were invited by our hotel owner to join the celebrations for his sons 8th birthday – typical Balinese food and all. Amazing!
